Pet Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Regional Manager


Location: This position could be located in either Wayzata, MN or Kansas City, KS.

Position Purpose & Summary

The Pet Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory (FSQR) Regional Manager is responsible for leading the planning, development and maintenance of food safety and quality systems for the pet food business, which consists of multiple manufacturing facilities or third-party locations with varying degree of complexity and system maturity. This role is ultimately responsible for assuring that all final product shipments meet or exceed customer requirements, facilities are compliant to internal policies and external regulations, and the continuous improvement of the food safety and quality system. This role supports FSQR team members in their region with food safety and quality issues, which often include interactions with customers, regulators, suppliers and other key internal and external stakeholders. As part of their role the Pet FSQR Regional Manager will maintain and grow a robust food/feed safety and quality culture in their region, which includes frequent interactions with key stakeholders at the facility level. This role is responsible for providing overall leadership for our performance management process and the coordination of hiring, coaching and developing talent within their region and within direct and indirect reporting relationships.

The Pet FSQR Regional Manager must assist in the design and facilitation of training programs to ensure the FSQR team in their region has sufficient knowledge of facility operations, product knowledge, and food/feed safety and quality management systems to enable adequate operations and commercial support.

Principal Accountabilities

40% People and Resource Management Leads talent management of employees in the FSQR organization for a region and accountable for the selection, training, development, performance management, staff organization and engagement of direct reports and oversees the same activities for indirect reports. Develops and implements short range (tactical) FSQR plan in alignment with business and local requirements. Actively participates in the development and implementation of regional FSQR initiatives. Key member of the business group FSQR leadership team. Leads implementation of business strategy to ensure a highly engaged FSQR workforce.

25% Perform Prevention Activities and Issue Resolution Directs the completion of audits across a region and proactively addresses risk areas through proactively identifying and anticipating potential risk and takes action to prevent food/feed safety and quality issues. Acts as an interface between our customers and the facility to review product performance, conduct quality and food/feed safety audits, review 3rd party certifications and respond to customer questions and complaints.

20% Shape Food Safety, Quality and Regulatory Culture and Reputation Interfaces cross functionally with plant managers and other facility leaders within a region to build and maintain an effective food safety, quality and regulatory culture. Acts as a liaison between customer and operations to ensure the customer s quality standards and expectations are met. Builds and develops an effective, competent and engaged workforce in a region s FSQR organization.

15% Develop, Implement and Assess Process and Systems Assumes ultimate accountability for compliance to all food/feed safety and quality regulations, policies, standards and practices across a region. Provides input to location leaders related to base and non-base capital expenditures necessary for achieving/maintaining industry leadership position in the food/feed safety and quality areas.



  • Bachelor s degree in science, chemistry, microbiology, quality assurance or science-related field
  • 5 or more years of working experience with 3 or more years in a technical related field such as plant operations, food safety and/or quality assurance
  • Experience with food, animal food or pet food manufacturing environments, preferably in dry food processing
  • Experience interacting with external stakeholders (i. e. certifying bodies, regulators, suppliers, customers, etc.)
  • Ability to be mobile in location of work and the ability to travel, sometimes with little notice, up to 25% travel
  • Ability to relate technical knowledge to solve complex testing and process problems
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to manage a large workload with multiple priorities
  • Ability to translate and communicate analytical data and technical knowledge to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability of leadership, motivation, interpersonal effectiveness, teamwork and successful completion of work
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure
  • GFSI (Global Food Safety Initiative) knowledge and experience
  • Demonstrated project management skills

  • Master s degree in science, chemistry, microbiology, quality assurance, business or other applicable field
  • 8 or more years of working experience with 4 or more years in a technical related field such as plant operations, food safety and/or quality assurance
  • Animal food/feed knowledge, especially pet food
  • Laboratory knowledge, including Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) and instrumentation
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification and/or Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training
  • Statistical Process Control (SPC) experience
  • SAP and/or Enablon software experience

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
